How to Screen Halloween Bookings in One Afternoon Without Turning Away Good Guests
Airbnb's Halloween anti-party defenses are on for the sixth year. Your part takes one afternoon: clear rules, a few honest questions, and evidence if something feels off.

Halloween weekend makes a lot of hosts nervous.
That's fair. Parties are banned on Airbnb. But one bad night can still cost you a house, a neighbor, a season.
Here's the good news. You can do your part in one afternoon. And you can do it without treating every guest like a suspect.
The facts below come from Airbnb's own pages.
Is Airbnb's anti-party system running this Halloween?
Yes. In its October 26, 2026 release, Airbnb says its "heightened anti-party defenses are back on across the United States and Canada." It says: "This is the sixth consecutive year we've activated this elevated system for Halloween weekend."
Airbnb says that last Halloween weekend, "more than 23,500 people in the United States were deterred from booking an entire home." In Canada, "nearly 3,000 people were deterred."
Read that carefully. Those are people deterred from booking an entire home. Not parties stopped. Not bookings proven bad.
Airbnb also says: "In 2025, around 0.06% of reservations in the US resulted in a report of a party to us." That's reports, not confirmed parties.
Airbnb doesn't publish how its system decides. So we won't guess. Your job is the part you control.
What should my listing and rules say about parties?
Airbnb's Resource Center piece, Tips to help prevent disruptive parties at your home, starts with expectations. It says you can:
- Use your house rules to set maximum overnight guests and indicate quiet hours.
- Reinforce those expectations in your listing description. Airbnb's example: "No parties or events."
- Set a 2-night minimum for stays. If you use Instant Book, consider setting additional guest requirements.
Airbnb says that matters most "if your space fits a large group or has a pool or big outdoor area."
Keep it short. One line. Guests skim.
Your photos set expectations too. The listing should match the place guests walk into, as our guide to when your Airbnb looks better in person than online explains.
If you have noise monitors or exterior cameras, Airbnb says you must disclose them in the guest safety section of your listing.
Not sure what you're still allowed to require? Read what Airbnb's new house rules still let you ask of guests, and whether you can still ask for a rental agreement or ID.

What should I ask when a booking worries me?
Ask. Don't assume.
That's Airbnb's own advice. It says to follow up with questions, "and be mindful of making assumptions."
Airbnb suggests you can ask:
- Local guests why they're booking so close to home.
- If they'll be present for the stay.
- How many people will be staying.
- If anyone not on the reservation will be stopping by or staying after quiet hours, particularly around holidays.
That last one works well in a friendly pre-arrival message. Say your guest count and quiet hours. Then ask the question. Most guests just answer.
Airbnb's list of signs includes a guest count that's at odds with the size of your home, guests booking on behalf of someone who is underage, bookings around holidays like Halloween, and guests evading clarifying questions about their stay.
A sign is a reason to ask. It's not a verdict.
How do I stay fair while I screen?
Stick to behavior and booking facts. What they said. What they asked. How many people. Whether they'll be there.
Never who they are. Airbnb's Nondiscrimination Policy bars declining or canceling a booking because of protected characteristics, including race, religion, age, disability, familial status and more.
Ask every guest the same questions. That keeps you fair. And it keeps you honest with yourself.
What if a good guest gets caught up?
It can happen. Be honest about that.
Airbnb's system "either blocks the booking or redirects guests to alternative accommodations on Airbnb." Airbnb doesn't say how often a good guest gets caught. Nobody outside Airbnb knows.
Roger Kaiser, Airbnb's Vice President of Fraud and Safety Operations, said in the release that most people booking over Halloween weekend are "visiting family, taking a fall getaway, or catching a football game."
So be kind in your messages. If a guest tells you they couldn't book, point them to Airbnb Support.
How do I report a booking or a party?
Before check-in, Airbnb says to gather evidence and contact Airbnb Support. If the evidence supports your concern, "you can cancel the reservation and we may waive cancellation fees or other consequences."
Airbnb's examples of evidence: messages asking how many people can fit, if the maximum guest count includes people who aren't sleeping over, or if you have a good sound system. Also reviews from other hosts about noise during quiet hours.
Keep every conversation in the Airbnb app. That's your evidence.
If a party starts anyway, Airbnb says never confront a guest in person. Message them, then contact Airbnb Support. If there's a safety risk, call local emergency services first.
The release also lists a 24-Hour Safety Line for hosts and guests, and a Neighborhood Support line where neighbors can report a party in progress.

One afternoon. Clear rules. Kind questions. Then let the weekend happen.
